The terms that apply when you use Finn. By continuing to chat, you agree to these.
Finn is a conversational surf forecast at heyfinn.surf. We aim to be genuinely useful — but the ocean has the final say. Always use your own judgement out there.
Finn provides surf forecasts, conditions, spot knowledge, equipment recommendations, and community-contributed reports for general informational purposes only. While we work hard to be accurate and up to date, we make no guarantees about the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of anything Finn says. Surf conditions can change rapidly and can differ significantly from any forecast — including ours.
You are solely responsible for your own safety and decisions when entering the ocean. Finn does not replace local knowledge, professional advice, or proper ocean awareness. Always assess conditions independently, be aware of hazards (including rips, tides, weather, marine life, and submerged objects), and surf within your ability. You surf at your own risk.
Finn includes reports, ratings, and comments submitted by other users. This content is not verified by us and may be inaccurate, outdated, misleading, or subjective. You should not rely on community content without your own independent verification.
When you tell Finn what you saw — wave size, conditions, hazards, water quality — you’re contributing an observation to Finn’s dataset. You keep ownership of what you tell us. You grant Finn a licence to use, aggregate, and analyse your contributions, and to share or license de-identified versions (never your name, email, or anything that identifies you) with third parties such as researchers, government agencies, and environmental organisations.
If you delete your account, we de-identify your contributions rather than destroy them — your observations keep helping forecasts and coastal science, but they’re no longer connected to you.
Some spots in Finn may be remote, hazardous, or subject to rapidly changing conditions. The information Finn provides does not account for all risks associated with accessing or surfing these locations. You are responsible for assessing access, safety, local conditions, and emergency preparedness before visiting any spot.
Any recommendations relating to surfboards, fins, wetsuits, or gear are general guidance. Suitability varies depending on individual skill, conditions, and personal preference. We don't guarantee performance or outcomes from using any recommended equipment.
Finn has a free tier: one spot check a day, no card required, and it doesn't expire. There is no free trial. Unlimited use requires a subscription at the rate published on the site when you subscribe (currently AUD 9.99 per month). You can cancel anytime by telling Finn in chat — the cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, after which you return to the free tier with your profile, spots, and history intact. Reporting your sessions is never restricted, on any tier. Billing is handled by Stripe; refunds are at our discretion in line with the Australian Consumer Law.
Finn is intended for personal, non-commercial use unless we've expressly agreed otherwise in writing. Commercial reliance on, redistribution of, or use of the data, forecasts, or content Finn provides is at your own risk and may require prior written consent.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any rights or remedies you may have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other applicable law that cannot be excluded.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, Finn is limited to: (a) the re-supply of the services; or (b) the payment of the cost of having the services supplied again. To the extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss, including loss of profits, loss of opportunity, or loss arising from personal injury or property damage resulting from use of Finn.
If we materially change these terms, we'll update this page and surface a notice in your next conversation with Finn so you know. Non-material updates (clarifying language, fixing typos) we make silently.
The easiest contact channel is to ask Finn directly in chat.
